The staff at Mtn. View wishes you all a Happy Holiday and we hope you enjoy the Winter Break from December 22-January 2!  We will see your students on January 5th.

The week in review
Tuesday morning we had 102 sixth graders load busses for a ride to the Twin Cinemas to attend their movie incentive trip.

Tuesday evening a couple hundred people attended the Beginning and Jazz Bands performance.

Wednesday morning, our Advanced Strings headed over to Chehalem Valley Middle School as one of the acts performing for CV’s student body.   We also had 116 seventh graders leave to enjoy their movie trip.

Thursday morning, it was 112 eighth graders turn for the movie incentive trip.  In the afternoon, the gifts for the Newberg Toy and Joy program were transferred to a fire truck to be distributed by the Newberg Fire Department.  Thank you to everyone who donated gifts!

We ended the week with a Cozy Holiday Spirit Day and a locker clean out.

Reminders
Students were reminded on Thursday and Friday to check their library book due date slips and either renew or return the library books by Friday.

Throughout the week, we made announcements asking students to check the Commons Lost and Found before they left on Friday as this Lost and Found will be donated to charity.

If you have a student riding a bus they usually don’t ride, please have them bring a note with the following information to the Office in the morning before school begins.  The information needed:
1, Your student’s name
2. Their friend’s name
3. Friend’s bus number
4. Friend’s address
5. Your signature

Testing
Beginning this spring, Smarter Balanced assessment will replace OAKS as Oregon's measurement of essential skills (reading, writing and math). Students in Oregon are required to demonstrate proficiency in these skills in order to receive a high school diploma and Smarter Balanced is the assessment Oregon has chosen to measure the attainment of those skills.

In our efforts to support our students in demonstrating their skills on Smarter Balanced, we have implemented a set of periodical assessments known as MAPS. These assessments occur in the fall, winter and spring and measure student's readiness for the Smarter Balanced.  The information from MAPS will help teachers plan instruction that best prepares them for success on Smarter Balanced which will be administered in May.

We will also consider the results of these assessments when we are making placement decision for reading, math, and advanced Language Arts/Social Studies classes.  Please encourage your students to take all assessments seriously and to demonstrate their highest level of skills when being assessed.  Contact us if you have any questions about these assessments.
