New NHS Assistant Principal Named

Incoming Newberg High School principal, Mark Risen announced the newest member of the school administrative team – Alaina Santana, an instructional leader and teacher at South Salem High School.

“Alaina is an articulate, intelligent, values-based leader that brings a genuine enthusiasm for kids and education,” said Risen. “As a leader in the English department and school site council chairperson, Alaina brings strong leadership to instruction, English Language Development and support for a broad range of high school students.”

Santana teaches English, International Baccalaureate and English Language Development classes at South Salem High School. She also serves as a mentor teacher, member of the school data and the common core state standards planning teams.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Oregon and Master of Arts in Education from Corban University. Santana also attended law school at Willamette University and worked as a law intern at the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Pendleton.

“Alaina brings great energy, strong instructional skills and a strong reputation for being student-centered,” said Newberg Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza. “Mark is building a team that will be making the best decisions in the interest of kids.”

Santana begins as NHS Assistant Principal on July 1, 2014.
