Edwards Elementary School moves on to the Oregon Battle of the Books state championship after a strong finish.

The Oregon Battle of the Books Elementary Regional tournament took place on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Newberg High School. Thirty-seven teams from Yamhill, Benton, Lincoln, and Polk counties battled for the top two positions to move on to the state championship.

This year's first place team is from Edwards Elementary School: Alexandra Brookfield, Jacob Rudolph, Keegan Thonstad, Matias Coronel, and Ella Rightmire.  Their team coach is Tammy Brookfield. Through their detailed book knowledge and teamwork the team earned a place at the statewide tournament at Chemeketa Community College on Saturday, April 6, 2019 where twenty-four other elementary school teams from across the state will battle together.

Oregon Battle of the Books is a statewide competitive reading program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Librarians. The growing program has reached thousands of elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the state, fostering teamwork and a love of reading.
