In The News: Storrs Smokehouse kicks off new hours with fundraiser for Edwards Elementary

Newberg Oregon School District

Due to repeated requests by customers, Storrs Smokehouse will be open Wednesdays. And, for the first five Wednesdays ten percent of all proceeds between 3 and 7 p.m. will go to support its neighborhood school.

When owners Allen Routt and Jessica Bagley-Routt were asked to host the tech fundraiser by the Edwards Parent Club, the couple decided to extend the bid for a one-evening event to include all five Wednesdays in April.

“For the last decade we’ve been committed to our community and are extending that partnership to our neighborhood school. We want to give back to the community that supports our restaurants. We love this community that has been our home for more than ten years,” Bagley-Routt said.

Edwards Principal Scott Murphy said he was thrilled about the generous gesture.

“I want to be able to increase the percentage of technology at the school so that our students can engage in and practice with numerous tech tools to help develop their 21st century skills,” Murphy said.

As for the new hours, in addition to all the customer requests, opening Wednesdays instead of Mondays is a practical matter as the couple also owns The Painted Lady. With this change, both restaurants will be open and operate on the same days.

Principal Murphy, and several staff members will volunteer at Storrs Wednesdays in April to participate and thank the community.

"I truly appreciate the community support that Storrs is giving Edwards. The combined effort of the community, business, parents and staff makes our school a great place to be and helps us give a richer educational experience to the students,” Murphy said.
