Snow Day and Other Happenings

Newberg Oregon School District

Winter has set in here at our school and I hear the weather forecasters talking about the possibility of snow! Their rate of accuracy is not the best, but it is a good reminder for parents to make sure their emergency contacts are up to date just in case we have to dismiss school during the day. In the event of weather conditions where school is delayed or closed, we will be using our One-Call-Now phone system to notify parents about what is happening. If students are being sent home DURING the school day, we will refer to the emergency form that was filled out at the beginning of the year. If you need to double check the emergency contacts, please feel free to contact the school office at 503-554-5050.

We have been busy at school checking in on students and the progress they are making since we started school in September. We have started OAKS State testing in reading and math for third through fifth graders. We will be starting a mid-year reading assessment (DIBELS) next week.

We have some new after school programs this year.

• Spanish Book Club – See office for specific dates.
• ELL Homework – Wednesdays
• Tune In To Reading – Monday and Wednesday – Fourth and Fifth grade
• Homework Club – Tuesdays – Second through fifth grades.

If you think your child would benefit from one of these programs and they are not currently involved please contact your child’s teacher to see if it would be of benefit to your child.

PBIS – We had our first Spirit Day right before winter break. Our next Spirit Day will be Wacky Tacky Day. The date will be determined after the students earn enough Eagle Eyes.

Thanks for the support you provide your children, and our school. Our kids are working hard and I am proud of their efforts. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
