School is officially underway -- the upper grades are assessing for the leveling of instruction in math, all of the classroom rules have been made and fully followed, 5th graders have been hired to help supervise morning gym/halls/entry and after-school buses, students are madly gathering pledges for the Lion Walk, and most of the K-2 students now have backpack tags for PM dismissal ........ whew!
Today we had our annual Constitution Day Assembly. Mrs. Preston (accompanied by 5th graders) and Mrs. McKennon did an exceptional job teaching students about the meaning of our Constitution in a way all K-5 could understand. I always love it when we sing together.
Next week all students will be DIBEL'd!! What's that? The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessment is several one-minute assessments that give a quick probe as to student reading skill level. At the youngest levels it's letters/sounds and at the higher levels it's all fluency and comprehension. Every student in the school (and school district) will be DIBEL'd three times a year to monitor student progress as one part of a multi-assessment program.
Smile!! Next Wednesday is Picture Day! All students will have their picture taken. Parents can purchase pictures if they choose by sending a picture packet on Wednesday -- students must present the picture packet at the time of the picture.
Come for the fun at our annual fun run ..... the Lion Walk. Feel free to join your students on the track (walking, running, strolling) as each Mabel Rush student attempts to complete as many laps as possible during their session. There will be music, laughter, water bottles, Mabel Rush T-shirts, and fun for all (sweaty fun!). Please send in pledge sheets on Friday so volunteers can record laps run and they'll come home again on Friday so students can collect what was pledged to them. Our goal is $20,000 this year. This is the only fundraiser of the year that involves students and the money funds the Parent Group budget which they allocate for ALL of our assemblies, ALL of our fieldtrips, and ANYTHING that is fun at Mabel Rush.
Life is good at Mabel Rush..............
