What a great Teacher Appreciation Week at Mabel Rush courtesy of our wonderful parents. Jennifer Duckworth led the way with daily treats in teacher mailboxes, all the staff enjoyed the huge Taco Bar on Wednesday, and it was heartwarming to see students walking in with flowers, cards, and hugs. Mabel Rush parents sure know how to spoil a well-deserved teaching team!
Planning for 2012-13 is underway. Teaching staff have been assigned and at the end of the month we'll begin the HUGE (and many hours long) process of grouping students in classrooms. We work hard to make sure every student has like-learners at their reading/math levels and classrooms are balanced with behaviors, leadership, parent volunteers, etc. Any parents who would like to submit letters outlining what they would like to see in a placement for their child should submit this in writing by May 25th.

Construction has begun on the high school track in the back of the school. Soon truck loads of dirt will move from the track into our two back courtyards. Teachers have put together plans to create an outdoor teaching courtyard with native vegetation and another courtyard full of growing beds. You will hear more about this as we seek parent volunteers to help us implement the plans!
It is possible that the kitchen and stage will be demolished before the school year ends. THIS IS GOOD NEWS. We want it to happen as soon as possible so that we can use our current configuration of trained students to adjust to changes which will be so much easier than trying to train in the fall with a grade level that has never had lunch and all the new students who don't know the routines. We'd love to open in September with a new cafeteria serving area!!
There are several Parent Group leadership opportunities available for next year. Please consider a leadership position on the Parent Group or chairing one of the 2012-13 committees. Our Carnival team has agreed to do it again -- Yeah!! We are currently seeking someone(s) who could bring leadership to the Lion Walk!!
