Happy Memorial Day Weekend!! I live in Dundee so I can't get home through the traffic on these weekends so I usually just stay and work -- there is plenty to do!!
It's getting incredibly busy. We heard officially this morning that the construction project begins at Mabel Rush on June 4th. This shouldn't change much for students, although their traffic patterns will change as they go to PE and the cafeteria. They'll begin by putting up plastic construction barriers so they can begin the demolition process of the stage, followed by the kitchen. We'll continue to serve hot lunches with a few less choices and paper products, but the team has the master plan ready to implement. We still have the gym and the cafeteria in use so we should do well.
We get to meet the new Superintendent on Tuesday! She will be visiting all the schools for several days and we look forward to our future.
Also on Tuesday, please bring a book if you will be in the building on Tuesday afternoon. Fire sirens will sound throughout Yamhill County at 1:30 to signal the start of Stop, Drop, & Read. The team of Michele Bergeron (former Mabel Rush Librarian) and Kim Lanier (Mabel Rush parent and Site Council Rep) are behind the entire community celebrating literacy for 15 minutes. Please join us!!
Our beloved Reading Teacher, Jayne Preston, will retire at the end of this school year. She is such a positive force in our school, sharing the love and encouragement of reading with not only students, but guiding staff. She's truly made a difference and we love her.
Outdoor School for the 5th grade was a hit and next week they are on to participate in the District Track Meet. It has always been hosted by Newberg High School but this year we will be at Sherwood High School due to construction. Go Mabel Rush Lions!!
Have a wonderful long weekend with your family!
