Let the school year begin!! Teachers report to school tomorrow for the big welcome at the high school from our new superintendent and then days of meetings in our building. It's a busy time and very energizing.
There is a rumor that school is starting late this year -- this is just a rumor. I'm amused by the many rumors we've heard this summer. We plan to open school on time and construction will be taking place on our campus all year long. We will serve lunches with limited choices just as we did at the end of the school year for two weeks and then our new kitchen will be operational. We thought we might open without a finished playground but they are installing equipment as I write this so it appears we might even have full recess options!! The alternative education building has been demolished next door and it will remain under construction this entire school year as it is rebuilt where our playground previously stood.
Do you know someone who would enjoy being a Mabel Rush crossing guard? The position(s) operate daily on school days from 8:00-8:30 and 3:00-3:30. Please help me find the best meet/greet staff with an intense focus on safety for our kids. If you know someone have them contact Ellen Lowe at Human Resources 503-554-5030.
I may have caused some miscommunication in my previous correspondence (sorry!). We look forward to seeing you at Supply Night this Thursday, Aug. 30th from 4:00-5:30. The purpose of the event is to ease students into school by finding their classrooms/teachers and being able to bring in all the heavy supplies which often results in parents driving students to school the first day rather than riding the bus. I hope that helps clarify ..................
We were pretty excited that the district opened up another Full Day Kindergarten program because this resulted in numerous Mabel Rush students getting in which lowered our class sizes in the half day program. Since then we have enrolled additional kinders which now leaves us at that terrible juncture of too many for two classes and not enough for three. I have been in contact with the superintendent and she is monitoring class sizes throughout the school district. It's a good thing kindergarten starts two days later.
Head lice has been a problem in the neighborhoods this summer. Please check your child's head for signs of lice (bugs or eggs that cling close to the scalp). Students must be treated and nit free to attend school.
We'll see you Thursday with smiles and supplies!! I can't wait.
