This is turning out to be a more difficult communication year than expected as we transition to electronic connections. We are initiating our Facebook page and expanding our school web offerings. In the meantime you'll get more e-school news from me as we determine our best way to create that important school to home connection. If you have feedback for us along the way we'd appreciate it.
We had an unexpected fire drill today. A plumber testing welds in our new kitchen set it off and it just happened to be during lunch for the 3rd and 4th graders! Wow, the kids did great! It took us longer than normal to make sure we had all present and accounted for, but students were flexible, shared their lunch spaces and recess times, and staff were superior in the moment.
Beginning next Monday, and lasting two weeks, the south driveway into the staff parking lot and bus access will be closed. The sidewalks in this area will also be closed. Please be warned that parking will be limited during this time since staff will take spaces previously available to parents. Our buses will use the Methodist Church turn around and students will be escorted through their "old playground" to/from the building, and you will see delivery vehicles in the front during this period. We will also be sending walkers across the street at Deborah and Haworth to walk the east side of the street and then cross in front of the school. The woes of construction........
4th and 5th grade Robotics Club permission slips went home today. They are due by Friday for participation in the lottery. Dale Ranum and Jeanne Schuback will lead the club this year, allowing us to offer five sessions with 8 students each time. What a great opportunity for Mabel Rush students !! Thank you so much Dale and Jeanne for your leadership.
Picture Day is tomorrow (Thursday). We do our best to get student pictures before PE and recess but it's just not possible when it takes the entire day to complete this task. All students will have their pictures taken. Those families that choose to purchase pictures send the packet with their child and the student hands it to the photographer. If students are absent, parents forget to send the packet, or the parent later requests retakes, we can do all of this during our "retake day" in late October. More news later.
Our Lion Walk fundraiser -- the one and only that involves students -- is underway. New this year is the expectation that the student returns their pledge sheet and all donations on the day of the Lion Walk. Please plan to join us on the beautiful new high school track to run, watch, or cheer. Think sunshine on Sept. 28th!
