It's the last full week of February -- Wow!!
Here's a quick update of things crossing my desk today:
The Newberg Kiwanis Club has a children's version that they sponsor in an elementary school. They have chosen Mabel Rush as their partner and I'm working with them to get our "K-Club" started for 3rd-5th graders. It's a service-oriented group that will meet on Wednesday mornings from 8:00-8:30 starting just prior to Spring Break. I'll be around to talk to classrooms and flyers will be available for those interested.
Kindergarten Registration is getting complex!! We will have our traditional registration for all students who will be five by September 1st on the afternoon of March 14th. We will also be registering for the full day program which Mabel Rush will again host -- these registrations must be in by April 2nd since the lottery is April 3rd. This year we will also be registering for the district's Dual Language program. This is a six year commitment for 13 English-speaking and 13 Spanish-speaking students -- this program will be located at Edwards and will also be placed by lottery on April 3rd.
The "Kids Helping Kids" spare coins are due this week. The Newberg Rotary Club banks the coins from all district elementary schools and the money stays in Newberg for student health needs. When I surveyed the display case this morning, there is no doubt that the 1st graders lead the collection drive, sadly leaving the 5th grade in the dust.
If you are a 2nd grade parent you have a busy week ahead!! We have the K-2 Fitness Night this Friday, the 2nd grade music program next Wednesday, a field trip to the Forestry Center on Thursday, and Thursday evening is a favorite event -- K-2 Family Math Night!! Whew, but fun!!
Hopefully our Yearbook will have ample pictures of our 1st graders today -- it's the 100th day of school and students/teachers are dressed as if they are 100 years old!! This is hilarious and I have to thank all the parents who put such energy into their child's look -- a first grader with their gray (yes, gray) hair in a bun and glasses on a chain is just too cute!
