Mabel Parents Update

March simply flies by way too fast!  Only a week until Spring Break and then it's April already!

We registered 49 future kindergartners at our annual Kindergarten Registration event -- the same amount we typically enroll this time of year.  The lottery for the Full Day Program and the new Dual Language Program is April 3rd.

Please continue to support your child in reading every night.  All students enjoy reading fiction, but the assessments we just started taking focus on informational text.  You can support your child at home by having them read the table of contents, maps, charts, graphs, headings, subheadings, glossaries, and indexes.

In an effort to get as much technology in the hands of students as quickly as possible, Mabel Rush is hosting it's first sleepover, Friday March 22nd.  The event is a lock-in from 7:00pm to 7:00am with supervision provided by myself, teachers will help with activities, and hopefully there are parent volunteers with badges who want to stay the night in the gym!   Complete information goes home with students tomorrow.

Our student laptop labs are over six years old and beginning to quickly die.  The Technology Committee has a three year goal to update student needs:

year one:  acquire a class set (tablets w/educational apps at K-2 and netbooks at 3-5) per grade level
year two:  acquire a second class set at every grade level
year three:  students 1:1 with technology at their level

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  It's corned beef and cabbage at our house every year.  With a name like "Shannon" I claim to be Irish -- although I'm German, ha!
