Mabel Parents Update

The Techno Sleepover was a complete hit!  Not only did students have a great time, but so did the staff.  We had 91 students, with 11-16 from each grade level.  The obstacle course and computer games were popular with many, I think everyone left with manicured nails (yes, the boys chose the wildest colors), but the two memorable events were the Teacher Chair Races and the Paper Sculpture Towers.  Did you notice that I didn't comment on how much sleeping was done???  We made $3,000 toward our technology purchases which will appear in our building before the month is out!!  I bet we do this again -- it was just too much fun not to.

The Auction is April 26th and technology will benefit from the success of this event as well.  Two incredible quilts came into the office yesterday -- truly masterpieces.  I know that staff are being creative with what they will offer and EVERY donation is a good one.  Make sure you come enjoy the fun of the auction -- it's an enjoyable "Mabel Rush Family" time where we get to visit with our neighbors, the kids have fun, and the auction competition is always a good time.  See you there!!

Several of you noticed that I tucked my retirement notice into the back page of the current newsletter.  This was a sudden and unexpected decision, but I let the Superintendent know Monday morning and the staff Monday afternoon.  During spring break my husband had a mini-stroke -- he'd had a massive stroke 20 years ago and has been disabled since.  This little "hiccup" was the wake-up call to grab our time together while we can.  Although I'll miss my Mabel Rush family terribly I'm determined to live without regrets.  My position has been posted and the staff will participate in the hiring process to provide a seamless and positive future to this great school.  We should know who the new principal will be by the end of the month -- I'll keep you posted.

Also tucked into the back page of the same newsletter is the teacher assignments for next year.  As usual we will invite parent participation, but we're not prepared to do so until May.  Please look for information in the May newsletter.

April showers bring May flowers -- those flowers better be beautiful!
