Dear Mabel Rush Families,
Thank you for conferencing with our teachers regarding your children’s progress in school this year. It was great to see you again and I have heard good feedback from parents and teachers regarding the conversations that occurred! As you can imagine, preparing for conferences and then talking to 30+ families takes a great deal of time and energy and our teachers were exhausted afterwards. If you have time and would like to do so, I know it would mean a lot to a teacher to hear from a parent that the conferences and extra efforts are appreciated.
Here are our events for this week:
Red Ribbon Week Students will be celebrating making good choices and demonstrating their commitment to making good life choices through their crazy outfits and hairdos each day this week. Please see our last newsletter for a list of the daily themes.
Wednesday, Oct. 30 9:30 AM K-2 Assembly Topic: Perseverance.
Friday, Nov. 1 1:30 PM K-5 Portland Trailblazers Assembly
As part of their Rip City Relay, they will be dribbling a basketball from Coos Bay to Portland this week. The public is welcome to observe the relay as it rolls through the town of Newberg from McMinnville. We lucked out at Mabel Rush and they will be dribbling the ball to our school that afternoon and presenting a short assembly to our students at 1:30 PM. Since they have an away game that night, the members of the organization that will visit our school will include the school mascot, retired players, and other members of their organization. We will also have a few invited community guests.
In planning for this event, here’s what I want to make sure our families know. Mabel Rush families are welcome in our school that day as always. Due to our gym size and the events that will take place during the assembly, I am going to limit the number of people attending the assembly to only our special guests, our students and staff, and any Mabel Rush parents I can fit along the side walls and in the back. This will be a loud assembly due to the nature of the events in it so I wouldn’t recommend it for babies and preschoolers and there most likely won’t be room for strollers. Parents will need to sign in at the parent sign in table for this event. This table will be set up in our front entryway with multiple people manning it so parents can get through as efficiently as possible.
MEDIA AND PHOTOGRAPHY -There will most likely be media members and parents taking pictures and video at this event just as there are at many school events. If you do not want your child to attend this assembly for this reason, please make sure we have written notification of this prior to Friday, Nov. 1. We will then find an alternate activity and location for your child during the assembly.
AN OPTION for our families and the rest of the community is that they can view the Rip City Relay from the sidewalks/side of the road as the relay members dribble the basketball through Newberg (from McMinnville) and to our school. The ball is expected to arrive at our school around 1:30 PM.
Thank you again for your dedication to your children and their education. I truly did enjoy getting to talk with so many of you last week when you came for conferences. I look forward to working with you as we move forward through our school year.
Sincerely,
Lisa Callahan, Mabel Rush Principal
