Mabel Parents Update

We have much to celebrate this month!  We are seeing some great gains in both reading and math at various grade levels, especially for students who have been struggling the most in those areas.  As I sat in with a grade level team in their PLC meeting on Tuesday, I listened as they reviewed student math data, determined what skills individual students will need to work on next, and then established lessons and instructional groupings for their students based on those results.  Care was taken to look at all students’ data (even the high achieving students) to determine how to challenge them next.   It was great to see teachers focused on ensuring that all students are challenged to take their learning to the next level.

Last week, our school concluded our Civil War food drive with the Oregon Beaver fans winning and about 2000 food items being donated to FISH.  Thank you to Kathy Roberson, Jody Stamos, and Jennifer Marshall coordinating and handling the packing of food items and delivering them to FISH for us!  Thank you also to the 5th grade students who counted all the items for us!

Last week our parent group also hosted a holiday bazaar to raise money for our school.  It was well attended with some great vendor deals and student performances.

Engineers and George Fox University engineering students are now set up to work with our students on real world STEM engineering lessons.  I’ll update you when those activities have dates and times attached so you can volunteer to assist with those activities in our classrooms if you like!

Our Art Lit program under the direction of Shelly Didway and Carla Cox has taken off with an explosion of color on 5 canvas paintings that will soon be hung in our library.

Lastly, I find I have a lot to be thankful for this year.  I am truly enjoying working with our Mabel Rush school staff, students, and families here in Newberg.   I wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
