Mabel Parents Update

Dear Parents,

2013 is rapidly coming to a close.  I’m enjoying seeing all the Christmas lights come out in our community!

It’s definitely getting chilly outside.  We’re asking parents and babysitters to do a quick check before children leave the house to ensure that students are wearing their winter coats.  We got worried when we still had a few students walk to school today with no coats on.  We want to make sure our kids keep safe and healthy in this cold and flu season.

This week we’ll have a parent group meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7:00 PM in our library.  Discussions will include that we are looking for a parent to serve on our site council which meets the first Monday of each month for roughly an hour after school.  One member is no longer able to do so due to other commitments this fall and scheduling conflicts and this has created an opening on the council.  Our Site Council develops, coordinates, and monitors our school improvement plan.

Our School Giving Tree is up and ready for families to select ornaments for, bring in the items on the ornaments, decorate the ornaments and place them on the tree.  Items brought in will go to families in need in our school community. We are also hosting a used book swap on Dec. 19.  Students are asked to bring in a used book(s) and place them in the boxes by the Giving Tree for the Great Mabel Rush Book Swap.  If we get enough books, every student will get to grab a book to take home for the holidays.  We need at least 570 books for this event.

This is the last week to purchase Entertainment Books.  The books sell for $25 and can be purchased here in our school office.  The proceeds from this fundraiser go to our parent group to fund school field trips and technology.

We will host guest story tellers/readers in our classrooms on Friday, Dec. 20.  Please let your child’s classroom teacher know if you are interested in being a guest reader and during morning or afternoon.  Your names will then get added to the list for teachers to sign up on and your child’s classroom teacher will notify you of your times and classrooms.  We will again have a Holiday Sing a Long at 2:00 PM that day also and you are invited to join us for it!

Have a great week!

Lisa
