Mabel Rush Update

It's cold outside but we're working hard in the Mabel Rush classrooms:

* the kindergarten Thanksgiving feast will be tomorrow -- I always hope for a leftover piece of pumpkin pie!
* 5th graders are finishing up their Explorer Reports (first big research paper of their careers!) and are now giving their speeches. I saw an outfit looking similar to George Washington walk in the door this morning!
* The Civil War Canned Food drive starts next Monday. Please vote for the UofO Ducks or the OSU Beavers by donating canned food or nonperishables (flour, sugar, cereal) to the side of your choice. We will also have two barrels to collect gently used children's books to support the Yamhill County Reading for All program. Both the food and the books will be distributed locally.
* People are already asking about the Giving Tree. It will go up in the lobby Friday evening December 3 with ornament tags available to take Dec. 6-10. Each ornament has a key ingredient to form holiday food boxes (turkey, potatoes, dessert, veggies, + some pantry staples) for Mabel Rush families. The staff will add gifts appropriate to the age of the children and deliver. We have more fun stories to tell from our adventures of "ring and run."
* The Mabel Rush Directory just came off the press last night. You can plan to see it home in the next few days -- one per family.
* Please dress your students for the weather. We typically offer students great latitude in how they choose to dress to go outside, but when the temperatures dip low we require students to wear a coat and hats/mittens if they have them.
* Breakfast w/Santa on Dec. 4th should be a great time. We've never done this before, but plans are underway for a wonderful time. It's time to find that digital camera I always leave behind on vacations!

Have a wonderful time with friends and family this Thanksgiving.
