It's that busy time of year where communication is essential to keep us all informed. Here's a quick update, but please e-mail or call me (503-554-4454) if I was too brief and you want more information:
* Thursday is Safety Day at Mabel Rush. We typically do all three drills during our two Safety Day's each year, but tomorrow we will only do two of the three. We will practice our second earthquake drill this month, including practicing evacuation to a safe collective site (high school soccer field). We will also practice a lockdown drill. The fire drill occurred unexpectedly last week when a toddler waiting for their kindergarten sibling pulled the alarm for us!
* We still have room in the Mabel Rush Full Day Kindergarten program next year. If you are interested in this tuition-based program, contact me.
* The deadline to register to vote is next week and the school has Voter Registration forms if you need them.
* As the weather gets warmer (I heard it's coming ......) please remember the school district dress code -- 4" inseams on shorts, 2" straps on sleeveless shirts, and we prefer flip flops remain at home
* The Auction Committee is having a great time and seeks a donation of any services you might consider donating. Ideas: home-baked chocolate chip cookies once a month, teach someone a skill (knit, jewelry making, cake decorating, pottery), high school children to haul barkdust, hair cut, dinner on your deck for two, babysitting, etc.
* The upcoming building bond election would provide the following at Mabel Rush
1. expand the kitchen serving area
2. provide acoustic bulletin boards throughout the building
3. upgrade electricity in the old classrooms
4. create a dedicated bus lane so buses no longer share the playground
5. provide energy efficiency (new boiler, HVAC energy controls)
I know that was a lot ........ it's April!
