Kindergarten is rocking with learning! Kindergarten students have been studying animals that hibernate. Hibernation is a survival mechanism that allows animals to survive through the cold season when food is scarce. Hibernating animals conserve energy, slow their metabolism, reduce their body temperature, and fall into a deep sleep. Kindergarten teachers challenge us to name more than five animals that hibernate. Skip to the end to see the answers. Students have also been enjoying holiday themes crafts like stockings, reindeer, and shape Santas. Trickster Gingerbread men have been hiding from students as well. Upcoming is a Gingerbread man scavenger hunt! Students have also been experimenting with candy canes and doing a STEM activity using a catapult. Ever wonder how far a candy cane can fly? Hibernating animals: bears, hedgehogs, bats, prairie dogs, hamsters, skunks, ground squirrels, common Poorwills (bird), deer mice, and wood frogs.
