We are now accepting registrations for students entering kindergarten in 2015-2016. Kindergarten is an integral part of the school district's total education program. Classroom instruction includes reading, writing, mathematics, science, instruction in art, social studies, physical education and music.
Regular Kindergarten Program
Full-day Kindergarten
Beginning in September 2015, all kindergarten classes (except option half-day program) span a full-day from 8:30AM - 3:15:PM. Students spend more time exploring reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and art with highly qualified teachers. Music and physical education is introduced by classroom specialists.
Optional Programs
For parents who do not want to enroll their students in full day kindergarten at their neighborhood school, Newberg offers three program options for kindergarten students.
Half day kindergarten
Morning or afternoon kindergarten provides a solid foundation for academic achievement and success in elementary school and beyond. The learning focuses on reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and art and follows Oregon kindergarten standards. All classes are taught by high qualified teachers. This program is by application only and located in schools based on available space.
Dual Language Program
The Dual Language program began in the 2013-2014 school year at the kindergarten level with an additional grade level added to the program each year. The class of 26 students will consist of an equal number of native English and Spanish speakers. This is a full day kindergarten program located at Edwards Elementary School.
Chehalem Online Learning Alliance (COLA)
Chehalem Online Learning Alliance is a tuition-free virtual program for Grade K-8 families in the Newberg School District. The hybrid online learning program blends online instruction with regular contact with a highly qualified teacher. Parents maintain a leadership role in their child’s education planning.
