8th Grade Parents –  2011 Forecasting Meeting February 7
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the Newberg High School Academic Night on Monday February 7th. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about small schools, academic programs, extra-curricular activities and forecasting from small school principals, counselors, staff and community partners.

Our goal is two-fold: 1). to inform you about the opportunities available at NHS to support your student’s academic and extracurricular goals over the next four years, and 2). to introduce you to the resources and strategies you will need to help your student reach his or her post high school goals.

We have changed our format for the evening in response to parent feedback from last year’s session. Below is an overview of the re-designed evening:

Presentation Schedule
6:30-7:00 If your last name starts with A-L, meet in the auditorium for a 30 minute presentation hosted by our administrative team.
7:15-7:45 If you last name starts with M-Z, the presentation will be repeated.

Open-House Schedule
6:30-8:00 The NHS Commons will be open and representatives from our athletics/activities program, our academic/elective program, the Booster club, Grad Nite and PCC will be available to answer questions and share information. Tours of the campus will also be offered.

This evening is a wonderful chance to hear about the many opportunities awaiting your student as they enter Newberg High School and we hope you will make time in your busy schedule to join us.

If you have any questions about the evening please free to call the NHS main office at 503-554-4402.

Small School Preference Forms are due to the Chehalem Valley Counseling office by February 11
Chehalem Valley counseling office now has NHS small school preference forms available to 8th grade students that will be attending 9th grade at NHS. You will also find this form as an attachment at the bottom of this missive.

*Students will be placed in a small school after a review of their academic status, demographic information and any special program needs. Our goal is to have small schools that represent the Newberg- Dundee community. Placement is NOT linked to specific program preferences such as band, ELL or a second language. All four small schools at NHS are equally committed to preparing students for college, career, and citizenship. All four share equal resources and they all offer students equal access to advanced courses, elective offerings, and support services. Students in all four schools can forecast for most electives. Please use this form if you would like to indicate a small school preference. Student and family preference will be considered but are not guaranteed.
