Congratulations to this year's Pentagames Team, they took 1st place in the regional math contest Friday April 25th.
The team includes: Joey Moody, Carson Picker, Rebecca Gregor, Jaydon Hills, Eddie Malapit, Gabe O'Brien, Alexandra Call, James Hyland, and Hallie Flukinger. Adrienne Nicholson, Jasmine Almond and Chelsea Gossen were alternates and helped run the event. Our students had a fun day of math in Salem and represented CV well.
Pentagames is a math contest for 7th and 8th graders. It involves 5 different events, some of them individual events and some team events. The five events are Math Tac Toe, Solve That Problem, 35-Minus, CR Squared, and a Team Relay. Each school sends 3-7th graders, 3-8th graders and 3 algebra (or above) students. There are usually 7 - 10 different sites hosting Pentagames each year on the same day. This year we were in West Salem at Walker Middle School. There were 7 schools at our site. Some of the schools at our site were from Salem, Corvallis, and Newberg.
Mrs Boles quotes, " I was on the original committee to help create the very first Pentagames during the 1983-1984 school year. (I taught in Yamhill then) This year was the 31st year for Pentagames."
