PRINCIPAL’S CORNER by Karen Pugsley, Principal CVMS
The 8th grade showcase night was a great experience on Thursday night – with a record number of students, staff and families present for the 8th grade culminating presentations. Unlike past years, students were able to choose their projects and the success of this strategy was present in the quality of the projects and the ownership of the learning by students. It was inspiring to see the students present and answer questions about their projects, projects that they chose and were responsible for researching. This is the kind of learning that we plan on celebrating more at CVMS – projects that fully engage students in their own learning and that celebrate 21st century skills. Congratulations to 8th grade LA teachers Greg Allen and Bethany Stoller for the work they did preparing the students and to CVMS Wolf Reading teachers for providing our students with the organizational support to make it happen last night. I was so proud of our 8th graders – they showed our community that they are ready to move on to their next adventure at the high school by creating such compelling research projects.
Next week, we will begin to wind down the school year and students will participate in a variety of end of year activities including our 8th grade promotion on Thursday (1:15-2:45 in the gym). Students should dress up for the ceremony – there will be many photo opportunities.
It’s been a wonderful year for me here at CVMS as your student’s principal – a great year of learning and listening to students, staff and parents. I appreciate the welcome I have received and I look forward to continuing the work we began next school year.
Cheers,
Karen
