Happy Friday to All of You!
Staff Appreciation Week
Next week is staff appreciation week. Our Leadership students have organized a variety of activities and raffles that they will be engaging the staff in. Our PTO is also
planning a potluck on one day. Please join me in saying thank you to the staff for all of their hard work in making CV a great place to be.
Japanese Relief Concert
We want to thank all of you who came to the Japanese Relief Concert on Tuesday Night. We managed to bring in over $2,000 that will go directly to the relief efforts for our friends across the Pacific. Mr. Sanders matched the $1,000 donated!
8th Grade Culminating Activity
On June 2nd we will be holding our first annual 8th grade culminating activity. 8th grade students will present a project that they have worked on this school year. The requirements for the project include a visual display, a written reflection, and a speech that is 3-5 minutes in length. On June 2nd the students will show these projects off to parents. Each certified staff member has a group of 4-5 students that they will be mentoring through this process. The 8th graders will see something like this in high school when they begin work on their Senior Projects.
Monday(May 2nd) is Blue on 2 Day
Please remind your student(s) to wear blue on Monday in support of anti-bullying.
Elementary Forecasting
Our counselors have been and will be visiting elementary classrooms to forecast for our electives. Elementary students will be given a forecasting sheet to take home to their parents to sign after they are debriefed about our elective offerings.
Math "24" Tournament
Tyler Straub took 1st overall, and Rayce Vergets was 4th. Other team members were Tomas Berelas, Davis Smith, Brandon Takahashi, Ann Nelson, and Michael Sproul. NHS students coordinated and officiated the tables as part of their Senior Project and math classes. It was a fun day. There were a lot of parents, families, and teachers there to see the competition between 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from around the District.
Pentagames
I went over to Mountain View to see our Pentagames math team take 3rd place overall. In total, there were six middle schools represented. Nice job!

School Bond Information
School measure on the May 17 ballot
Newberg Public Schools are asking voters to approve a $27.1 million bond to repair schools facilities, replace inefficient energy systems and update and equip classrooms. The measure would cost taxpayers less than what they are currently paying due to a bond retiring. In addition, Newberg School district taxpayers would save $4 million in interest costs because the district was awarded federal stimulus funds that would pay all the interest on $15 million of the bonds. Bond information is on the school district website at www.newberg.k12.or.us/district/bond-information.
Q. What happens if the school bond doesn’t pass?
A. The current general fund budget would not be able to support the major repairs, textbooks and technology replacements purchases identified in the bond0. The district would still needs to reduce the 2011-12 budget by $700,000, which is equivalent to 12 teachers or six days of school.
Q. Would taxpayers pay on both the retiring bond and the new bond at the same time?
A. No. The new bond would replace the retiring bond. Taxpayers would not pay on both the new and retiring bond at the same time. Costs for the new bond are less than the retiring bond, which reduces the cost to property owners by 85¢ per thousand dollars of assessed value.
Q. When will I get my ballot?
A. Ballots will be mailed from the Yamhill County Clerk’s office on April 29th and should arrive at households between April 30 – May 3. Clackamas and Washington County residents may have already received their ballots.
Have a great weekend!
