Happy Friday to All of You!
Toys for Joy Drive
This week the students and staff have been bringing in toys to benefit those less fortunate. For every new toy brought in students are given a raffle ticket and automatically entered into a drawing for numerous prizes including dance packages to our first winter semi-formal dance.
Come check out our main office, the toys are piling up! This week our students and staff participated in dress up days including 80's day and Civil War Day. Next week the dress up days and activities are:
Monday-Pajama Day
Tuesday-Indoor Snowball Fight (Lunch Activity)
Wednesday-Disney Day
Thursday-Elf Obstacles (Lunch Activity)
Friday-Hand Painting (Lunch Activity)
Civil War Sock Drive
The winner of the Civil War Sock Drive were the Ducks by a score of 163 to 117. Thank you to all of you who donated! The sock drive score may be an actual depiction of the Civil War game this weekend. The socks will be donated to the homeless.
Donated Computers from Pacific University
On behalf of CVMS students and staff we would like to thank Ted Kupricka and Pacific University for their generous donation of laptop and desk top computers. The laptops have either been placed in teacher classrooms or in another mobile computer lab. We are looking to create another classroom computer lab with the desk top computers. In this age with depleting funds, we are grateful for this generous donation!
Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible
On Tuesday our kids played PBIS Jeopardy within their first period classes. The purpose of the game was to remind our students of our behavior expectations in all areas through out the building including classrooms, hall ways, restrooms, offices, the gym and the cafeteria. We will continue to have quarterly reminders about what constitutes appropriate student behavior.
Winter Semi-Formal
Our first, strictly CVMS student dance will be held next Friday from 7-9 PM in the CVMS gymnasium. The cost is $5 per person or 15 Wolf Bucks. CVMS behavior criteria of no behavior referrals this 2nd quarter and no more than three tardies does apply in order to gain access to the dance.
Wolf Reading
We had our first installment of Wolf Reading on Wednesday. It went very well!
In the classroom
Unfortunately I was at a conference for three days this week thus I was unable to engage in my normal routine of classroom visitations. Our teachers and students are doing a very good job and are working hard.
Jean Housgard: Students are making dolls to donate to St. Vincent's Hospital. The dolls will be used by medical staff to assist in their communication to kids about possible health ailments. The students were excited to make these dolls.
Kelly Romo: Ms. Romo is preparing her students for the state writing exam in February. Students were utilizing an outline sheet to help guide them in formulating the contents of their writing into a structured five paragraph essay.
Mike Rogers: Mr. Rogers' students are making tables in wood shop. Students are required to complete 8 steps within the table making process, and once step 8 is complete, then they are finished.
State Testing
We are in the midst of our first round of state testing. We like to test early so we can utilize this testing information to inform and guide our instruction. The students are allotted three testing opportunities and we will maximize these opportunities. Our 2-Year school improvement goals are as follows: the percentage of students meeting/exceeding state standards...
Math Reading Writing
6th grade 83% 87%
7th grade 89% 89% 68%
8th grade 86% 84%
