Doernbecher Week
We will be beginning our Doernbecher fundraiser next week. Kelly Ceder and our Leadership students
will be taking the lead in organizing activities intended to raise money for Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. We will have a school assembly, and on March 11th there will be a Doernbecher dance. We did have tours scheduled this week but due to the snow we had to cancel those tours. It is a great cause and as always, our kids rise to the occasion to support those less fortunate.
Battle of the Books
Due to the snow we had to postpone our teacher battle with the students in Battle of the Books. We are hoping to hold our battle on March 9th. In Battle of the Books the teams answer questions about details from 16 books that they were supposed to have read. I've seen the kids in action, they will be tough to beat.
Sex Education
Within the next several weeks our Science teachers will be offering a special healthy sexuality education program. The units will last approximately 1-2 weeks. The program is designed to help students recognize the pressures and the consequences of early sexual involvement. The program has been evaluated and has shown positive changes in student's knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and intended behaviors regarding postponing sexual involvement. Letters will be going home either through mail or they will be hand carried by your student(s). If you do not want your child to participate please RETURN the letter to the school signed.
Freshmen Forecasting
The High School Principals and counselors will be here March 7th to forecast with our 8th graders. By this time our 8th graders will know what school they will be attending next year.
State Testing
We are now in the midst of our 2nd round of state testing for reading. Our kids will be taking their 2nd round of math testing in April. Our 7th graders have completed their state writing assessment. We will provide updates of where we are in relation to our 2-year school improvement goals after our 2nd round of testing.
Blue on 2 Day
Next Wednesday we are all wearing blue in support of anti-bullying. We will be doing this on the 2nd of every month.
