Happy Friday to All of You.
End of the 1st Semester
The end of the 1st semester will be Thursday, January 31st. 1st and 2nd quarter grades will be averaged to calculate your
student's 1st semester grades. We will also have our end of the quarter incentive on this day. In order to participate in the incentive, students must have all their work turned in, zero behavior referrals and less than four tardies.
5th Grade Parent Night
February 19th from 7-8 PM in our library
Winter Formal
Thank you to Eileen Brennock and Leadership for organizing our Winter Formal Dance. The Winter Formal is tonight from 7-9 PM! Only students with zero behavior referrals and less than 4 tardies are eligible to attend. The cost is $5 or 15 Wolf Bucks. We encourage formal dress attire but of course it is not a requirement. Please make sure your kids are within dress code before attending, otherwise they will not be allowed to enter.
Anti-Bullying T-Shirt Design Contest
I have received a number of anti-bullying t-shirt entries. We have quite a few talented artists within our school. The PBIS team will vote on a winner to which I will announce next week. Thank you to everyone for participating!
Exclusion Day
February 20th is immunization exclusion day, meaning that students not up to date with their immunizations will not be able to attend school. Please make sure that if you fall within this category that you take your student(s) into the doctor to receive their shots.
School Visitors
It is very important that you check into the office anytime you enter the school building. If you do not, please be prepared to answer questions from staff regarding your reason for being in the building. Staff have been instructed to be hyper vigilant in regards to anyone on campus without a visitor's badge.
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
We have been selected as one of the Oregon test schools for NAEP. NAEP is a national exam in the areas of reading and math given to a randomly selected group of sixty-three 8th grade students. The data collected through this exam will be used as part of Oregon's data to see where Oregon ranks nationally. Individuals' test results will not be revealed and we will not be rated as a school on how we perform.
8th Grade Parents
High School Presentations for incoming freshmen are approaching:
-February 7th 1-2 PM at Mountain View Middle School
-February 7th 6:30-8:30 PM at NHS
Parents and students can attend either session.
Working Hard is Important to Us!
We address lack of work completion as a behavior with minor incident reports (MIRs) and behavior referrals. Please check out the link regarding our MIR (Minor Incident Report) policy regarding homework completion.

Absences
Every year we see more absences for trips and personal vacations. Although I understand that vacations do happen during the year, we ask that if at all possible you look to schedule extended vacations during our regular school breaks. Students can always make up work, however it is difficult to replace the loss of instruction.
Please be cognizant that we are extremely vigilant in regards to attendance. The following is the list of reasons the state provides as excusable absences:
-Student illness
-Illness of an immediate family member
-Emergency
-Doctor/Dental Appointment
-Death of an immediate family member
-Court summons
-Satisfactory arrangements, made in advance with the school for other reasons
*Absences for reasons not noted on this list will be marked unexcused.
