Happy Friday to All of You!
Spirit Week
Today was our last day of spirit week. Every day this week we had a dress up theme. On Monday, the kids showed their allegiance to either the Ducks or the Beavers. On Tuesday it was Twin Day. Wednesday of course was Halloween. Thursday was Black and White Day and today the kids wore their very best attire for Formal Wear Day.
PE Ball Room Dancing
Today was the final for the PE department's annual Ball Room Dance unit. The students look forward to this every year as does the staff. It is an opportunity to see the students engaging in multiple facets of ball room dancing. With the way the PE department teaches the unit, it is possible that even I would be able to learn to dance. Now that would be amazing!
Civil War Sock Drive
Are you a Beaver fan or a Duck fan? Show your support by bringing a pair of new socks to your Math teacher. We will keep score and see which team wins this Civil War. You can sock it to ‘em until Friday Nov. 16. All socks will be donated to a homeless shelter. Beavers lead already 16 – 0.
Candy Buy Back
Are you sick of your Halloween candy? If so, please bring in your candy to our main office. Courtesy of Wilson Orthodontics we are collecting extra candy which will be donated to our Troops. Thank you!

Weekly FAQ about proficiency grading:
Why are we not giving out extra credit?
We are doing away with extra credit because extra credit inflates students’ grades. Grades should always be indicative of student knowledge on the content standards. Unfortunately, extra credit points can be given out to students for random things such as bringing in a box of kleenex, going to a fundraiser for school, or turning work in early. These types of activities do not reflect student knowledge and should not be included within student grades. We also use grades as indicators for students that may need extension or interventions. If grades aren’t reliable, then students may be placed incorrectly or miss the extra support needed to help them achieve success.
Student/Parent Handbook
In case you were wondering, our student/parent handbook is located on our website.

PBIS Lesson
On Wednesday we engaged students in conversations in Wolf Reading classes about bullying. Students were read national statistics about bullying in schools inside and outside of school. Afterwards, each staff member solicited student responses about what more we could do as a school to decrease bullying. The PBIS team will look at all of the student suggestions. They were excellent conversations.
Blue on 2 Day
Blue on 2 Day will be Tuesday November 6th! Wear blue in support of anti-bullying.
Absences
Every year we see more absences for trips and personal vacations. Although I understand that vacations do happen during the year, we ask that if at all possible you look to schedule extended vacations during our regular school breaks. Students can always make up work, however it is difficult to replace the loss of instruction.
Please be cognizant that we are extremely vigilant in regards to attendance. The following is the list of reasons the state provides as excusable absences:
-Student illness
-Illness of an immediate family member
-Emergency
-Doctor/Dental Appointment
-Death of an immediate family member
-Court summons
-Satisfactory arrangements, made in advance with the school for other reasons
*Absences for reasons not noted on this list will be marked unexcused.
Visitor Check-In
If you are visiting the school for any reason please check-in at the main office. If you are visiting a student or a classroom you will need to sign-in and retrieve a visitor's badge.
