Magazine Drive
I want to thank all of you who have purchased a magazine subscription. I also want to thank our parent volunteers for helping collect the orders and also for working the entire afternoon counting the collected money. The school gets half of the money collected which we use for our PBIS program, school field trips, for student supplies, and for technology. I do not yet have the amount that was raised but regardless, thank you for your efforts!
We are adding another turn-in day for magazines. Our last turn-in day is Tuesday, October 9. Donations of $15 will count as one order!
Blue on 2 Day
We had our first Blue on 2 Day on Tuesday. This was probably our best showing in two years with students wearing blue. Teachers engaged students in dialogue during 1st period about the importance of recognizing bullying and then standing up to bullying when they see it happening.

FAQ's about standards/proficiency based grading
As all of you know we are transitioning to standards/proficiency based grading. I encourage all of you to read the information on the attached link if you haven't yet to gain further information. The link includes FAQs about our new grading, a rationale, and a summary of our plan. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to call the office. Homework Club
Homework club will be every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school in the library from 2:30-3:30 PM with Mrs. White. We were able to work out the bus coming on Wednesdays as well. Homework club is voluntary, however at times we may mandate it for some students. Teachers, when available, also utilize the after school time to work with students. A late bus will be available on these days to pick students up at 3:45 PM. The bus has drop offs in Newberg and Dundee but does not venture out toward Ewing Young. If you want specifics of the bus route please call the main school office.
Mini-Incentive
Our next mini-incentive is October 26th. Students with no missing work in at least 5 of their classes will be treated to either hot apple cider or hot cocoa at lunch time.
Superintendent Listening Session
We will NOT have our regular PTO meeting on October 11th. Instead, I encourage all parents to attend the superintendent listening session on October 22nd from 5:30-6:30 PM in the CV library. Dr. Leblanc-Esparza will be speaking about the vision for the district including getting our kids ready for the 21st century.
Absences
Every year we see more absences for trips and personal vacations. Although I understand that vacations do happen during the year, we ask that if at all possible you look to schedule extended vacations during our regular school breaks. Students can always make up work, however it is difficult to replace the loss of instruction.
Please be cognizant that we are extremely vigilant in regards to attendance. The following is the list of reasons the state provides as excusable absences:
-Student illness
-Illness of an immediate family member
-Emergency
-Doctor/Dental Appointment
-Death of an immediate family member
-Court summons
-Satisfactory arrangements, made in advance with the school for other reasons
*Absences for reasons not noted on this list will be marked unexcused.
