Spirit Month This month is spirit month. Our Leadership Class has been planning activities and dress up days to incorporate into this month. Yesterday was Twin Day and we had a number of students celebrating the day with their friends...it was fun to see! Next Friday everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer followed by school spirit day the following Friday when students can wear green and white.
Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible
Cole Aldred and Luis Sauceda were our attendance/tardy drawing award winners. They were picked from a list of 460 students that did not have any absences and tardies from last week.
The following students received Positive Behavior Referrals (PBR's) thus far for the month of October: Aaron DeHart, Eric Davis, Riley Francis, Joe Watson, Cassie James, Mitchell Hallman, Angel Perez, Austin Romine, and Austin Fletcher.
Many students are receiving Wolf Bucks each week for outstanding behavior. Students now have an opportunity to purchase items from our newly formed student store. In the student store students can buy pencils, pens, notebooks, water and much more! The office also has many items including sweatshirts and t-shirts that students can buy with a certain number of Wolf Bucks. Teachers have also developed various incentives that students can earn within their classrooms for Wolf Bucks. Students, save those bucks!
Activity Day
We have an Activity Day scheduled for November 5th. The criteria needed for participation includes no missing work, zero behavior referrals, and no more than three tardies. Activities on this day will include a dance, board games, ping pong, outside games (weather permitting), crafts, computer lab, baking, and much, much more!

School Report Card
State Report Cards were released and we were rated as "Satisfactory." The state utilizes a specific formula (I have no idea how it works) and calculates the report cards based on data over "two" year periods. For example, last year's report card was based on data from 2007-2008, and 2008-2009. Our report card this year was calculated from data from 2008-2009, and 2009-2010. Next year's report card will be based on last year's and this year's data. There are three ratings: Needs Improvement, Satisfactory, and Outstanding. We fall into one of these categories based on performance regarding student achievement, attendance, and testing participation. In order to be "Outstanding" we must be outstanding in all three of these criteria. As I will show you, we were outstanding in attendance and participation but missed outstanding in achievement by 2 points.
Celebrations
As a school community I want to recognize all of you for outstanding work. I do not want you to think that we are just satisfactory, because in my estimation based on improvement, our kids are absolutely outstanding. Here is a closer look at our numbers from last year:
2009-2010 Percentages of students meeting/exceeding benchmark
CV State Comparison Schools (Schools with similar SES, demographics, etc.)
Reading: 83% 76% 82%
Math: 84% 77% 83%
Science 79% 72% 79%
Our Achievement Index, based on data from 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 improved from 83.5% to 87.9%!
Overall, based on data from 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 the percentage of students meeting growth targets in reading and math was 84.1% and 84.7% respectively. Last year's report depicted averages of 80.6% and 81.7%. As you can see, we experienced growth in these areas.
I am not a big rating guy, however they are our measuring tools. All of us are working hard and it is obvious that the ratings are not entirely depicting of what an outstanding school we have and the improvements that we saw last year. We still have work to do, but make no mistake about it, we have a great school!
