Happy Friday to All of You!
Wadayama
Our friends from Wadayama Japan arrived today late in the afternoon. We had a quick welcome ceremony with our host families in the library. Tomorrow the kids and adults will be spending time with their host families followed by a trip to Seattle on Sunday to watch the
Mariners play. Our welcome assembly will be Monday.
Parent Teacher Organization
I was very pleased to see the turn out yesterday at our PTO meeting. Among the topics discussed was the first two weeks of school, the upcoming Wadayama visit, the magazine drive, new fundraiser ideas, and Mr. Neff and Mrs. Hagedorn delivered teachers’ reports on the first two weeks. If you are interested in being a part of PTO please feel free to contact our PTO president Mary Reohr at reohrm@newberg.k12.or.us or simply come to a meeting. Our next meeting is October 13th from 6:30-7:30 PM.
Mountain View and Chehalem Valley teachers working together
This year CV teachers will be working extensively with MV teachers in efforts to “unwrap” the new Common Core standards. Our first meeting together was this past Wednesday. The goal of the two schools meeting is to create a guaranteed curriculum between the two school sites, and to also utilize the insight from each other to improve student learning. It is very important to us and MV that we are on the same page in the type of curriculum and instruction that we are offering to our students. After all, both schools are preparing middle school students to graduate high school.
Annual Student Review Forms (ASRs)
Earlier this week ASR forms were sent home with the students. The due dates for the forms was yesterday, however if you have not turned yours in please do so ASAP. It is vital that we receive these forms because they contain the updated annual student information which contributes to a successful school year for your child.
Make the Difference
I just wanted to remind all of you about our “Make the Difference” theme which centers on anti-bullying. We are asking that our students “Make the Difference” if they see bullying happening to other students. “Making the Difference” for students could mean telling a staff member, or removing the student from the bullying situation.
This past Monday students were involved in activities and conversation centered on appropriate expectations in every area in the school building as our teachers incorporated the first round of PBIS lesson plans. The staff has truly grasped onto PBIS, and as a result our school climate is outstanding!
I am hoping the weather takes a turn for the better this weekend. Have fun with your weekend activities whatever they may be. As for me, I am hoping that my daughter’s soccer team can keep winning despite the shortcomings of their coach…which is me!
Have a great weekend!
