Newberg School District is in Year 4 of our curriculum realignment to the new Common Core State Standards. As staff members, we have been working to align our curriculum in each core area and piloting new assessments and classroom activities in preparation for a full roll out of the standards in Oregon. As parents, you may have questions or concerns about these national standards and the way they will impact your child’s education. We want to hear from you.
Our Parent Leadership Council suggested a workshop on the Common Core at their next evening meeting (Wednesday, November 19 @ 6:30 in the Library). I asked our Superintendent, Kym LeBlanc-Esparza to share her perspective and our district’s commitment to these standards. She graciously accepted the invitation and will be attending the CVMS Parent Meeting next Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the CVMS library. Please consider attending this meeting to learn more about the history and implications of these new national standards and ask questions of our superintendent.
