Welcome Back!
New Staff
Please join me in welcoming our new staff this year: Todd Morgan (Special Education), Bryan Long (Math/Shop), Bethany Stoller
(6th grade Core), Luke Neff (7th grade Core), Debbie Tofte (7th grade Reading), Shannon Vandehey (Counseling secretary), Angela Fishback (Speech and Language Pathologist), Bill Leach (custodian), Marylee Mounger (Psychologist), and Susan Clayton (counselor).
6th Grade Orientation
6th grade orientation went very well on August 25th with almost 90% of our new 6th grade class in attendance. The students did some team building and friendship activities, took tours of the building, met staff, and worked on their lockers. Special thanks to the student ambassadors, our counselors, Deb Whiting and Susan Clayton, and Kevin Brill, Connie Rice, Kim Silva, and Wendy Halstead who helped facilitate.
Back to School Night
Thank you to all who came to Back to School Night. We had an outstanding turn out as well, probably the best in the three years that I have been here. Special thanks to all of my classified staff who assisted (Ann Marie Benetti, Terry Ellson, Derrie Palmer, Rena Kosters, Tina Oathes, Stacie Wolfe and Martha Santa Maria).
First Day of School
The first day of school is September 6th. Our first bell rings at 7:35 AM with classes beginning at 7:45 AM. Student schedules and locker assignments will be available for students to pick up before school in case they do not have them. On the first two days, students will be on an abbreviated schedule providing extra time first period for teachers to review the student rights and responsibilities handbook. Students will be briefed on school rules and procedures. After wards students will be taking home the handbook for parents to sign. Please peruse the handbook, sign it, and return the signed slip.
Opening Assembly
On Friday, September 9th, we will have an opening introductory assembly. We will introduce the staff, run through our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program and expectations, and welcome the kids back.
Make the Difference!
"Make the Difference!" is our mantra for CV. It is our goal to educate our students on the importance of making the difference not only in the classroom with academics, but also in social settings should they witness negative acts of behavior. We expect our students to stand up for what is right and "Make the Difference" in the lives of everyone associated with Chehalem Valley Middle School.
Wadayama Junior High School
On September 16th, Wadayama Junior High School students and staff will be visiting from Japan. We are eagerly anticipating their arrival and look forward again to the learning experiences that our kids will share with them.
Parent Teacher Organization
If you are interested in being a part of our PTO please contact Mary Reohr at reohrm@newberg.k12.or.us or simply come to our first meeting. Our first meeting will be September 15th at 6:30 PM in the CVMS library. Our meetings are generally held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM. Daycare is provided.
