Bookworms finish in state top eight

Newberg Oregon School District

The Joan Austin Battle of the Book team got in the top eight at the state competition.  They made the Sweet Sixteen and then the Great Eight and then lost.  They represented Newberg well for our first time ever having the competition.

"They were pretty sad they lost," said Terry McElligott, Joan Austin principal. "One of the coordinators of the regional came and talked to them to congratulate them.  She said she knew there were close to 900 or 1000 teams in the entire state at elementary that competed this year.  They should think of themselves as placing in the top eight from all of those."

" I think that really put it in perspective for all of us.  I was very impressed on how well they did and the level of sportsmanship they displayed in all battles from the school level to regional and then this weekend at state."

Congratulations Bookworms!
