Bookworms take third in Battle of the Books competition

Newberg Oregon School District

You would be so proud of our girls as they represented Joan Austin for the first time at regionals.  I am not sure who was more nervous throughout the day, the girls or all the adults.  In the end, and after a long day, The Bookworms took 3rd place at regionals!  There were a total of 77 teams at this region!  The girls had to play a total of I believe 6 rounds of Battles starting at about 9 am and ending by about 2 pm. The top four teams will move onto state, so they are not done!!! They will once again represent Joan Austin again for the first time at the state competition going against the top teams from the 9 regions.  So a total of 21 teams will be battling on April 11th.
The parents were amazing and supportive and Janelle Gray has done amazing working with these girls from day one!!  Thanks to Principal Terry McElligott (dressed head to toe in shamrocks) who came out and stayed till the end and made sure to rub her socks and shirt for good luck!  :)  What a great start to Battle of the Books at our school.
