Brief Lockout at Austin Elementary

Joan Austin Elementary School was briefly in LOCKOUT at 11 a.m. Thursday morning due to a cougar siting at Ushio Industries on Mountainview Drive.

Newberg-Dundee Police investigated and could not confirm a cougar was in the area. The lockout was lifted on police recommendation at 11:15a.m. School is operating on a normal schedule.

What's a lockout?
Lockout is called when there is a threat or hazard outside the building. Students return to inside of building and do business as usual. Teachers make sure students and staff are inside building, account for students and conduct business as usual.
