1st graders receive "Reader's License"

Learning to read is a major event in a child's life.  For these students, with the support of their teachers and parents, they have worked hard and persevered in order to be readers.  In the fall, after our initial assessments in reading, these students were "at risk" readers, scoring below the 20th percentile on our district FAST test.  Realizing the importance and urgency of getting these students to be readers, we met with parents to outline a plan of action, implemented strategies embedded in our new language arts adoption materials., Amplify, and provided targeted instruction on a daily basis.  With these efforts, these students are no longer "at risk" readers, improving their skills and confidence.  We would like to acknowledge their achievement and the dedication of the teachers and parents who have supported them.
