Mr. Milner's Friday Message - 2/26/2016

Dear Ewing Young Parents-

What a great week!  The Book Fair and "Grand Event" were the highlights, with many "special guests" visiting our school and enjoying some special time with their Ewing Young student.  Thank you EYST parents for supporting this special event.

Our students in grades 3-4-5 will be taking Smarter Balanced (SBAC) assessments soon, and teachers will be working with me (the testing coordinator) to prepare students for these exams.  There are two parts of SBAC and each part includes a skills test and performance task (problem solving for math and essay writing for language arts).

The dates for Smarter Balance (SBAC) are as follows:

Third Grade Lang. Arts: April 4-8

Third Grade Mathematics: May 2-5

Fourth Grade Language Arts: April 6-7 and April 11-12

Fourth Grade Mathematics: May 2-5

Fifth Grade Language Arts: April 11-13 and April 16-18

Fifth Grade Mathematics: May 9-13

If you would like more information regarding Smarter Balanced Assessments, please refer to this link, http://www.smarterbalanced.org/,  or contact me in the school office.

Next Tuesday will be an emotional day for our staff and students as we formally honor Mr. Hall, the Ewing Young counselor who passed away unexpectedly during the summer.  We will have a short memorial in the morning, and create a pinwheel garden outside the library in his honor.  Mr. Hall used Dr. Seuss as a means of communicating messages to students during his counseling lessons.  Here is one of Mr. Hall's favorite quotes:

"A person's a person no matter how small."

Enjoy the week ahead and thank you for your support of our staff and students.
