Mr. Milner's Friday Message - 4/1/2016

Dear Ewing Young Parents:

What a great start to the final chapters of the school year.  The weather has been awesome this week and the kids have returned to school with great attitudes and ready to get back to work.

A few things coming up that I wanted to make parents aware of:

2016 Parent Survey:

Each year the schools in our district conduct a school satisfaction survey administered by The National Center for School Leadership.  Our annual parent satisfaction survey helps each school identify strengths, challenges and make plans to improve areas needing attention.   This year, parents can use phones, mobile devices or computers to take the short 10-minute survey. You can stop and restart the survey at any time.

The survey opens Friday, April 1st and closes by April 15th. Topics address academics, communication, discipline, school climate, outreach and engagement and homework. Responses are strictly confidential.

Your participation in this survey is an important way we can listen to your opinions.

Smarter Balance Testing:

Our students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will begin taking Smarter Balanced assessments in language arts starting next week.  Smarter Balance exams are aligned to the Common Core Standards and are designed to monitor students' progress toward the attainment of the knowledge and skills required to be successful upon graduation.  For a sample of what these tests look like, as well as some additional information, please visit the SMARTER BALANCE ASSESSMENT SITE.  If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher, or me in the office.

Parent-Teacher Conferences:

Parent-Teacher conferences for some parents are coming up.  Ewing Young teachers broke spring conferences into two blocks, conferencing with some parents in February, and holding conferences again in April, on April 14th.   Teacherswill be contacting parents and setting up appointments for April 14th.

It's been a fun April 1st, full of pranks.  Enjoy a nice weekend and please feel free to contact me if you have questions, or concerns, about your child's education.

Thank you.
