Mr. Milner's Friday Message, April 22, 2016

Ewing Young Parents,

Here we are on the last weeks of April, celebrating Earth Day today by talking about the earth, planting a tree on the school grounds and watching the plants in our school garden grow.  Good stuff!

Yesterday, we welcomed new kindergarten students to our school by registering students that will make up the "Class of 2029". If you have a kindergarten student starting next year and have not registered them to start school next year, please drop by the office and talk with Sheri.

The weather this past week has been very "summer-like".  With the hot weather, comes changes in student's clothing.  As a reminder of our dress code, please look over the following information prior to sending your child to school on warm-weather days:

1. Clothing should be clean and appropriate.

2. Hats (including bandannas, scarves or other headwear) are not allowed inside the building (unless it is a special school spirit day)

3. Appropriate shoes should be worn at all times for safety reasons. Flip-flops present a safety hazard both in the classroom and on the playground.

4. Clothing may not contain words or logos that are suggestive, or represent alcohol, drugs, violence or vulgarity.

5. Skirts and dresses should be no shorter than four inches above the knee; shorts must have an inseam of four inches.

6. If a student chooses to wear leggings, the shirt/dress must be at least four inches below the buttocks.

7. Clothing that exposes midriff, buttocks, cleavage, backs or undergarments will not be worn.

8. Tank tops may be worn if they have a two-inch strap width and are cut closely under the armhole. Crop tops, bare midriffs, and spaghetti straps are not allowed.

Our students in grades 3-5 have been working diligently on state testing (Smarter Balance).  I'm very proud of how hard they have worked on a very challenging assessment.   We will be finishing up testing in language arts this week, with students beginning math testing starting in May.

For a staff celebration, Mr. Sturdevant welcomes his new baby daughter.  Exciting news for the Sturdevants!
