Mr. Milner's Weekly Message 10/14/2016

Good afternoon Ewing Young Parents-

With this being the last day of this school week, I wanted to keep you updated with school happenings.

Today, the state released "School Report Cards" for all Oregon Schools. If you take a closer look at the report card for Ewing Young, you will see improvements, with some work to do. On a related note, this morning our school's Site Council met to look over our working draft of our school improvement plan, setting goals for students reading by 3rd grade; math and reading achievement by the end of 5th grade. Once this document is finalized, I'll send this out to parents to keep them in the loop. If you'd like to sit down to discuss this, or would like more information, please feel free to give me a call (503-554-4754). This is important and I appreciate the work of Staci Flier and Matt McCaw, our EY Site Council parents, as well as Mr. Evers, Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Johnston.

On October 31st, Ewing Young will continue the long-standing tradition of wearing costumes to school during the day and for Harvest Parties. In light of some of the recent issues with clowns in the media, here are the requirements for students/parents as you plan ahead for this day:

- No scary costumes (we have younger students)

- No masks or face paint

- No clown costumes

- Weapons or props can be saved for home and not brought to school

I spoke to students today about these requirement, so they know that we can have a fun day if we follow these guidelines.
