Attendance is very important and there has been research showing that students who attend class on a regular basis succeed. Please call to let us know your student will be absent or late. If you forget, we will call you. We have an answering machine so you can call 503-554-4500 any time of the day or night.

 

 

What does my child wear for a concert?
Concert attire required unless otherwise noted:  Band or choir shirt, black slacks (or long/knee length skirt for girls), black socks/stockings and all black closed toed shoes.

How do I put lunch money on my student’s account?
You have several options…
1. Your student can take cash or a check to the Cafeteria in the morning prior to school or at lunch time.
2. You can bring cash or a check to the office and we will get it to your student.
3. You can check in at the office and take the money to the cafeteria yourself.
4. Add money via the internet at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/

 

PE Uniforms are mandatory at both Newberg middle schools and the high school. All three schools have the same uniform, which will enable you to use it for many years! PE Uniforms can be purchased in the main office. Students will take the receipt to their PE teacher to receive their uniform.

Cost:
$15 for shirt and shorts
$6 for shirt only
$9 for shorts only

PE Sweats are optional.  But if your student decides to wear sweats, these are the ones they’ll need to wear.  Sweats can be purchased in the main office where an order form will be completed too.  Sweats are distributed during PE when the order arrives.  

Cost:
$23 for sweat pants and sweatshirt
$11 for sweatshirt
$12 for sweat pants

 

I’m new to Mtn. View and need to register my student, what do I do?

Immunization records
Latest report card
State test scores if available

 

My student is coming to Mtn. View from an elementary school, what should I know?
The dates of many of these activities will be on our calendar, check it out for exact dates.

April
Wildcat Welcome Parent Night from 7-8 pm
During this evening visit, you will choose an elective for your incoming 6th grader and return the form to us that evening.  We will have the electives showcased as well as share a variety of information about some of the differences you and your student will find at the middle school.  You and your student will have the opportunity to tour the building,  practice opening lockers, get answers to questions, learn about needed immunizations, discover opportunities to volunteer and much more.

Late Spring
5th graders tour MVMS
MVMS counselors and principals take the students on a tour of Mtn. View during the school day. 

Late August
6th Grade BBQ from 5-8 pm. 
This is a “don’t miss” event that has replaced our Back  to School Night.  At this event, you can take care of things before school starts such as:  pay fees, pay and receive PE Uniform, learn about the Mtn. View Parent Group, buy a Yearbook, deposit lunch money, receive your student’s schedule and locker assignment, deposit school supplies in their locker, find out what bus they will ride from Bus Barn representatives (if they ride a bus) and learn about middle school sports which is run through CPRD.

Beginning of September
First day of school.
All students enter through the Commons door.  6th Graders will gather in the Commons with 7th and 8th graders gathering in the Gym.

 

My 8th Grader is attending Newberg High School next year, what should I know?
Sometime between February and April, your 8th Grader may be forecasting for 9th grade classes. Check back on this website for details. You can also check out the high school website.

 

What does a typical day look like for my student?

7:15 am – Doors open and students hang in the Commons and Gym until 7:35 

7:40 am – Students are to be in their seats for first period
2:45 pm – End of the school day

Students will take a math, science, social studies, language arts,  and two elective classes (to see elective class options: http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/elective-program) which take up 6 of our 7 period day. The other period will be PE or Health which are on a rotating schedule.

 

I want to purchase a Yearbook, how do I do that?
There are two ways to purchase yearbooks:
1. via check or cash in the Mtn. View Office
2. online at http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/mvms-webstore

When are yearbooks distributed?
The second to last day of school.

Yearbooks and Fines
Students who have library, PE, locker, cafeteria, or instrument rental fines will not receive their yearbooks until the fines are paid.
