A new face greeted Mountain View Middle School students when school opened Tuesday as Don Johnston steps into his new role as Vice Principal.
Johnston replaces Scott Murphy, who is serving as interim principal at Edwards Elementary, for the 2014-15 school year. MVMS principal Wayne Strong says Johnston hit the ground running, demonstrating that he is going to be a great addition to the 550-student school this year.
“Having known and worked with Don in a variety of roles over the last decade, I know he brings a wealth of valuable experience working with middle school students, parents, and staff,” said Strong. “I am thankful he was willing and able to come on board and fill-in as assistant principal for the coming year.”
Johnston has taught in the Newberg district since 1995, most recently as a core language arts/social studies teacher at Chehalem Valley Middle School. He has extensive experience in alternative education programs for middle school students.
Johnston holds a Masters Degree from George Fox University and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Earth Science from Western Michigan University. He served as president of the Newberg Education Association in 2011-12 academic year.
