MAP Testing
During math this week, all students were in the computer lab taking the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) math test. Next week, 8th graders will get to do it again except in Language Arts. MAP testing is new to the district this year and will be testing students in Grades 3-10. This cross district standardized way will let teachers know where students are in respect to the Common Core Standards. Math and 8th Grade Language Arts teachers look forward to the data this will provide. To learn more about Common Core Standards… http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/district/common-core-state-standards
MV Student Store
On Monday, the Mtn. View Student Store opened its “doors” after school. A thank you to the parent volunteers who have signed up to run the Student Store every school day! Items cost anywhere from 50 cents to $1.50 and the kids love it!
Fundraiser
Thursday and Friday were the first turn in days of the Mtn. View Parent Group’s Fall Fundraiser. There are two more turn in dates next week…Thursday and Friday, September 18 and 19.
Donations are always welcome with a hundred percent of the donation going directly to the MVPG. Every $25 in donations is the equivalent of selling 5 items.
Lost and Founds
Mtn. View has two places students can look if they’ve lost items. One is located in the Commons which houses larger items such as coats, jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc. While smaller stuff is housed in the office for about a week and then put out in the display case across from the Office for about a month. Smaller items could be books, keys, jewelry, pencils and such.
Emergency Drills
Wednesday was the first earthquake, lockdown and fire drill of the school year. Students did a great job in listening to their teachers, following instructions and keeping quiet when needed.
What do you do in case you need to evacuate a bus? Students learned this during their Science classes on Thursday.
After School Late Bus
The After School Late bus which arrives at Mtn. View at approximately 3:45 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, began this week. Between 2:45 and 3:45, students planning to ride this bus must be with a teacher, in After School Study Hall or in the Library. To board the bus, students will need to get a pass from the teacher they are staying with.
8th Period After School Camp
A series of free, after school camps will available to 6-8th graders on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-5:15 at Newberg High. Find out what is being offered as well as other pertinent information at http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/district/8th-period-after-school-camp
