E-School News
September 5, 2014
We hope your first week of school was a good one!
Thank You
Thank you to our fabulous volunteers who helped at the 6th Grade BBQ, 7th and 8th Grade Ice Cream Social, before and after school on the first day and during picture day! We appreciate you!
MV Parent Group (MVPG)
Please note that there will not be a 7 pm September 10th MV Parent Group meeting as previously reported. We hope you can join the 1 pm September 10th meeting!
Periods were shortened today so students could attend the MVPG Fall Fundraiser kickoff assembly. Check with your student to find out more about the Fundraiser!
Volunteers are needed to help collect Fall Fundraiser orders from students on September 11, 12, 18 and 19 during Mtn. View’s lunch times:
10:45 -11:35 am
11:10 am -noon
11:40 am – 12:30 pm
You can stay for one lunch or all three! A District volunteer badge is required and if this is your first time at Mtn. View, please bring your driver’s license too. If you are interested in helping please contact Sarah at sommerville4@comcast.net
8th Graders
If your 8th Grader is interested in attending the Washington DC trip (visiting places in New York, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and Virginia) on June 16-23, 2015, there is an informational meeting for parents and 8th Graders on September 9 from 6-7 pm in the Chehalem Valley Middle School Library.
Heidi King will lead the group. Her contact info is:

Welcome New Teachers
We have a few new staff members this year that we’d like to welcome:
Mr. Blaeuer is teaching Strings
Mrs. Brown is teaching Health
Mrs. Hoard is teaching 6th Grade Social Studies and Language Arts as well 8th Grade Reading
Mrs. Holman is teaching 7th Grade Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading
Mrs. Jin is our new Librarian
Mr. O’Doherty is our new Resource Room Teacher
Mrs. Teesdale is our new SEAL Teacher
Cafeteria Servers
If students were interested in becoming a cafeteria server, they were asked to talk to Mrs. Mayes in the Cafeteria. As of this writing, she is still looking for 3rd lunch servers.
Picture Day
The second day of school was picture day for Mtn. View Students as they smiled for the camera during their PE or Health class. Student ID’s were distributed on Thursday during lunch. Seventh and 8th Graders who earned a blue or green sticker for Round 1 received them with their ID’s. Sixth graders and new to Mtn. View 7th and 8th Graders are in the process of earning them now until September 19. What do they earn? Check it out here and you’ll know why you may get those calls saying they need their ID card.
When we receive the pictures, they will be distributed and sent home with your student.
Bells/Busses
With our longer school day (7:40-2:45 and Wednesdays 8:40-2:45), morning bells have changed this year. The first bell which rings at 7:35 and 8:35 on Wednesdays is the warning bell letting your students know they have 5 minutes to get to their locker and to class. The second bell which rings at 7:40 and 8:40 on Wednesdays means students should be in class and sitting in their seats.
If your student rides a bus, all busses leave from Mtn. View.
Bus notes:
In order to have the bus note ready for students before the end of the school day, students should turn in their notes prior to school starting. The parental note should include:
1. Your student’s name
2. Their friend’s name
3. Their friend’s address
4. Their friend’s bus number
Student’s pick up their “Alternate Destination” forms on their way to lunch.
Picking up Siblings at Mabel Rush
Because Mabel Rush Elementary students are released at 3:10, Mabel Rush is off-limits to middle school students. If your student picks up a younger sibling, they must wait in the Mtn. View Library until 3 pm.
Mtn. View Exterior Doors
All of Mtn. View’s exterior doors are locked during the school day to help keep us all safe. Students have been asked not to open any exterior door if someone is trying to enter. Visitors to Mtn. View, we ask that you enter through our Main Entrance by ringing the doorbell to the left of the door.
MVMS Student/Parent Handbook
During classes on Wednesday, students read parts of the Mtn. View Student/Parent Handbook and were given a test during 7th period. What did they read….http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/mountain-view-middle-school-student-parent-handbook
Student Profile
If you haven’t returned the Student Profile Form that was sent to you in August with the newsletter, please review it, make necessary changes, sign it and have your student return it to the Office as soon as possible.
You may have noticed that at the bottom of the Student Profile there was a place for you to give permission for your student to receive Acetaminophen at the Nurse’s discretion. This phrase is a preset on the form and unfortunately, due to state law, we are unable to administer any medication to your student that you have not provided.
MV Webstore
Want to purchase PE uniforms, sweats, Yearbooks, 8TH Grade Celebration T-shirt or pay Art or Science Exploration class fees from the comfort of your home? You can do that at Mtn. View’s WebStore! http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/mvms-webstore
Absences
If your student will be absent for any reason, please give us a call at 503-554-4500. If you are calling after school office hours (7 am – 4 pm) please leave a voice mail. We encourage you to call prior to 7:30 am. If your student is marked absent during their first period class and we have not heard from you, we will be calling you to make sure your student is safe.
