MV E-School News

This Week
The lists of over 400 students who earned the Laser Tag trip were posted Monday afternoon. Tuesday, students procured their permission form, gathered their team members and signed up. Permission forms were due on Friday along with $6. This coming Tuesday, 8th graders will be boarding busses for the trip and returning in the afternoon. Wednesday will see our 6th graders heading out and 7th grade will get their turn on Thursday. This year if team members would like to wear matching shirts or armbands or matching socks or nametags or some other team identifier, we are saying yes. Not allowed are hats or sunglasses. We ask that any team identifier follows dress code rules found in the MV Parent/Student Handbook
Wednesday, 6th & 7th graders were given the form to choose an elective for the 2015/16 school. Forms went home with your kiddo requesting a signature and were due back today.
The MVMS Canned Food Drive ended today. The winning lunch will be rocking out to music during their lunch. If the Staff wins, we get to pick the type of music that is played. I’m excited to hear who won.
Friday, we had kiddos coming and going! By 8 am, about half of our 8th graders left for a water quality field trip. They returned around 11:25 am and went to class unless they were 8th graders in Advanced Band. All Advanced Band members as well as those 8th Graders attending the afternoon water quality field trip ate an early lunch. The second round of 8th graders boarded the bus about 11:30 am returning before school ended. The Advanced Band students boarded their bus about 12:30 pm heading to Corvallis to attend the OSU Band Festival. At 8:30 am, nine MV students boarded the bus that returns the CV Advanced Strings student to CV and participated in the Pentagames math competition.

Fun Facts
Students heard these fun facts this week:
The first celebration of Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970, making 2015 the 45th anniversary of Earth Day. For this 45th year of celebration, Wildcat Pride wanted to remind students about recycling. Our classroom and lunch recycling has decreased the amount trash the school dumps each week from 15 bags per week to 9!
Americans throw away about 28 billion bottles every year.
Did you know that recycling doesn't have to just be about paper, glass and metal? We can also work on conservation. We can work to use less water and energy. Did you know that running your faucet for 5 minutes uses up enough energy to run a 60 watt light bulb for 14 hours?
Did you know: Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to listen to a full album on your iPod? Recycling 100 cans could light your bedroom for two whole weeks!
Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4000 kilowatt hours of electricity. This is enough energy to power the average American home for 5 months.
MV Parent Group
The MV Parent Group is selling spirit wear. T-shirts and/or sweatshirts can be ordered online or by picking up an order form in the Office. Please return orders to the Office by May 1. Delivery should be two to three weeks after May 1.
Color-A-Thon turn in took place today with the last one scheduled for April 30. When you register your student, it will ask for a teacher name, please enter your student’s 7th period teacher.
