This Week
Students who had second or third lunch and wished to play soccer got the chance on Wednesday.
After School on Wednesday, the Library was the site of Mtn. View’s Battle of the Books Final. The Bookians and Smarty Pants battled with the Smarty Pants team winning. We wish the Smarty Pants team luck as they head to Regionals on March 14.
As one of the rewards of Mtn. View’s Super Star Rewards Program, lunch time on Thursday was our first Lunch Lecture Room Activity. Any student who has a Round 4 Orange or Super Star sticker showed their ID and entered the Lecture Room to enjoy some electronic time! There are several themes planned for the Lunch Lecture Room Activity.
Our Advanced Band played in the NHS Auditorium during the Advanced Band Festival Thursday evening and did an outstanding job!
The Box Top contest ended on Friday. We appreciate all who sent in Box Tops! Winners will be announced soon.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are on sale for $20 with only 133 remaining and can be purchased in the Office or online at the Mountain View Webstore. Please be aware there is a processing fee for items purchased online. Yearbooks are distributed the second to the last day of school and in the past have sold out before June.
Recycling and Wildcat Pride
The Wildcat Pride class has challenged the Mtn. View population to a competition…by recycling at lunch and in their classrooms. Thursday was the beginning of the completion that will last for two weeks and is looking at the amount of recycling each 4th period class creates. The classroom that recycles the most over the next 2 weeks will win an extra minute of passing time to 4th period for a week! The Wildcat Pride class has even posted a sign near classroom recycle bins on what is recyclable.
They also want to see students recycling at lunch. Last year we were only throwing away 2 bags of waste from all 3 lunches and study hall. This year it has grown to 5! The lunch that recycles the most over the next 2 weeks will earn music at lunch for a week! Wildcat Pride students were on hand to teach students what and how to recycle at lunch.
Some interesting recycling facts:
*Did you know that on average, Americans drink one beverage from an aluminum can every day, but we recycle just over 49% of the cans we use? Since the cans are 100% recyclable, we could drastically reduce the energy needed to produce brand new cans simply by recycling our empties. An aluminum can is able to be returned to the shelf, as a new can, as quickly as 60 days after it's put into your recycling container.
*One dirty product, or one with food waste still in it, can contaminate an entire bale, containing thousands of pounds of collected plastics. This can cause thousands of recyclable items to go to a landfill instead of being recycled.
