Next School Year
Believe it or not we are preparing for the 2015/16 school year!  We invited our incoming 5th graders to join us on Thursday night to choose an elective and find out some of the differences between elementary and middle school.

On Tuesday, March 3, it will be our 6th and 7th graders turn!  During their Science class, students will receive their elective form, be asked to bring them home for your signature and return them to the Counseling Office no later than Wednesday, March 4.

NHS Staff will be coming over to Mtn. View in mid-March to forecast with our 8th graders, so stay tuned for that!  Remember to keep informed of events by visiting our website http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/8th-graders-moving

Recycling
We continued our recycling competition this week.  The lunch groups are really going at it!  It’ll be fun to see which lunch recycled the most and will win music at lunch for a week!  This Tuesday and next Tuesday classroom recycling bins were/will be emptied and measured to see which 4th period class will win an extra minute of passing time to 4th period for a week.

Students learned these recycling facts this week:

*Did you know that every year we produce enough plastic film in this country to shrink-wrap Texas? Or that although Americans recycle more than 2.4 billion pounds of plastic each year, it only makes up around 27 percent of the waste stream? While plastic offers the advantages of being flexible and lightweight, it also consumes fossil resources for its manufacture and contributes waste in our environment.

*Some consumers think glossy paper can't be recycled. That may have been true in the early days of recycling, but no longer. With today's recycling technology, nearly all community recycling programs accept glossy magazines and catalogs for recycling. Recycling just one ton of paper saves enough energy to power the average American home for six months.

*Did you know that a little more than 48 percent of all office paper is recycled? This is used to make writing papers, paperboard, tissue, and insulation

*Around 200 B.C.E. the Chinese used old fishing nets to make the world's very first piece of recycled paper.

Spirit Day
Today was “Dress to Impress” Spirit Day. Suits and nice dresses were seen here and there.

Jump, Shoot, Run (JSR)
JSR will be on Friday, March 6 in PE classes.  Pledge forms will be coming your way soon.

What is JSR?
This Mtn. View Parent Group fundraiser helps to fund the PE department and the parent group which pays for all the special incentive trips.

How does it work?
Students will ask for pledges and return the pledge form only on March 6, the day of the JSR.  The pledge sheets will come back with your student on March 6 after they have participated in the JSR. Donation turn in day is at lunch on Friday, March 13.

Most shots 6th, 7th, 8th

A couple of Volunteer Opportunity
Twelve volunteers are needed to run the JSR.  On March 6, come all day or for a few hours between 7:30am - 2:45pm!  Contact Wendy at wendyr541@gmail.com to say you will help and what hours you can be at the school.

Can you spare some time once a week until the end of the school year from 2:35-3:00 pm?  This fast paced volunteer opportunity is the MV Student Store which is open for students at 2:45 pm until approximately 3 pm. Contact Cindy at:tnkrbls@hotmail.com and let her know which day of the week works for you.
