Super Star Rewards
We are excited to announce over 400 of our students earned a sticker this round!  Students earned stickers for:  95% or higher attendance; no MDFs: no referrals or detentions (minor infractions).  Silver "Super Star" stickers were given to students who met all three criteria.

January 27 began the time period for students to earn the next round of stickers (Round 5) which will end April 3.  Students who earn 2 of 3 stickers or a Super Star sticker during this time frame will also be rewarded with the Laser Tag Incentive Trip which will take place in late April.

Please follow this link if you would like to learn more about Mtn. View’s Super Star Rewards

Why did we set the attendance sticker criteria at 95%?  As a school, our average attendance rate is approximately 95% and we are striving to raise the rate to at least 96% because there is such a high correlation between high attendance and high student performance.  We understand, however, that on occasion some students may get injured or ill to the point they cannot be in school and that other things happen in their lives that make missing school unavoidable.  For this reason we have developed a process by which a student who did not earn the attendance sticker may appeal the decision.  We have established a committee that will consider student’s requests for an exception.  A form is available in the office and on-line under Super Star Rewards for that purpose.  The form will ask for specific dates of the absences in question as well as documentation to support the request for an exception.  Students may turn it in to the main office within a week of sticker distribution day.

No, this paragraph isn’t about the Super Star Rewards, but new homework coupons!  Students received new homework coupons on Tuesday and handed in unused homework coupons on Friday for a treat.

Congratulations!
Eleven of our students participated in the annual District 14 Honor Band and Honor Choir on January 30 and 31 with other students from around our area.  These students traveled to Lakeridge High School to rehearse on Friday and will have rehearsals and a concert on Saturday afternoon.  Good Luck!

New Bell
We have a new bell which will be ringing at 2:55 pm.  So that students are supervised while in the building, we are asking that when they hear this bell, they are with a teacher, with Mrs. Raz in After School Study Hall, in the Library or have left the building.  If students are finished staying with a teacher and are waiting for the late bus, we request that they be in the Library or with Mrs. Raz until 3:45.

Spirit Day
Friday was Color Games Spirit Day with a competition!  The grade level with the most spirit will be listening to music during one of their lunch periods in the near future.  Sixth graders were to wear green, 7th graders yellow and 8th graders red.  Staff got involved too by wearing the color of the grade they teach or black if they were representing all three grades.

Battle of the Books
The first Battle of the Books took place on Wednesday between team Hybrid Time Lord vs the Fearless Frontiers and the Bookians vs the Oddballs with the Bookians leading after one round. The next battle takes place Wednesday, February 4.

8th Graders
Newberg High School will be hosting the incoming 9th graders and their parents on Monday, March 9, from 6-8pm. Stay tuned for more information.  Also watch the MV Website as this and other important dates will be posted.

The Washington DC program still has room if your 8th grader is interested in this opportunity.  Students can pick up a packet from Mrs. Martinez in the counseling office.

MV Webstore
If you would like to purchase any of the following online, you can: PE shorts and shirts, sweatshirts and sweat pants, 8th Grade Celebration T-shirt, Art and Science Exploration class fees and yearbooks at the Mountain View Webstore.  There is a processing fee for items purchased.  You can also look to see if your student owes money for Instrument Rental, lost locks or lost textbooks and pay for them.
