This Week and More
What do you get when you cross a PE Dance Unit and music at lunch? A flash mob! During lunch time on Thursday a flash mob broke out as Mr. Stockner and Mrs. Converse danced with students to “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and “Electric Slide”. These are two of the dances students have been learning in their PE class. Why the music at lunch? MV Students are recycling so much at lunch and in our classrooms that they're making a difference and saving our school money. As a reward, everyone was given an additional minute of passing time between 3rd and 4th period and all 3 lunches music for a week! Music started on Tuesday with another flash mob on Friday! Pictures are posted on Mtn. View’s Facebook page.
Our Choir headed to Veritas for a Choir Festival on Tuesday and did well.
We were seeing double on Friday because it was Copy Cat (Twin) Spirit Day at Mtn. View!
Eighth Graders had a couple of deadlines outside of the classroom this week:
*NHS Forecasting forms were due in the Counseling Office on Thursday. Friday, the High School took them away.
*NHS Cheerleading packets were due today in the Main Office.
*DC travelers who had popcorn orders were to turn them into the Counseling Office today.
The Yearbook was looking for pictures of sports players... everything from dance, to golf, to martial arts, to football and anything in between. Students were asked to email, bring a hard copy or a disc to Miss Bryant’s Room by Friday.
Testing
Students have been MAPS testing recently with Smarter Balance testing beginning after Spring Break.
The following was published in the December 5 MV ESchool News:
Beginning this spring, Smarter Balanced assessment will replace OAKS as Oregon's measurement of essential skills (reading, writing and math). Students in Oregon are required to demonstrate proficiency in these skills in order to receive a high school diploma and Smarter Balanced is the assessment Oregon has chosen to measure the attainment of those skills.
In our efforts to support our students in demonstrating their skills on Smarter Balanced, we have implemented a set of periodical assessments known as MAPS. These assessments occur in the fall, winter and spring and measure student's readiness for the Smarter Balanced. The information from MAPS will help teachers plan instruction that best prepares them for success on Smarter Balanced which will be administered in May.
We will also consider the results of these assessments when we are making placement decision for reading, math, and advanced Language Arts/Social Studies classes. Please encourage your students to take all assessments seriously and to demonstrate their highest level of skills when being assessed. Contact us if you have any questions about these assessments
Conferences
Spring Conferences are scheduled for the afternoon and evening of Monday, April 6, and early morning on Tuesday, April 7. Please watch for more details after Spring Break.
